Hi, I am Jennifer. I started getting into Indie music in 2019. I did not know great Singers existed outside the realm of mainstream music. I was on YouTube, and found a Playlist channel called: KHB. I liked about seven or so songs from there. Other songs starting popping up in my feed, namely: Ruelle. She was the biggest start of my Indie journey. She used to sing echoey, background music for a tv show called Shadow Hunters. She had several albums and I liked many of her songs. It started a chain reaction of finding out other people like her and I was chasing a sound that was dreamy and yes you guessed it-fluid.
I found Novo Amor, Dave Thomas Junior, Lissom, Lists, Vancouver Sleep Clinic, Vraell, Sod Ven, Ghostly Kisses. These were some of the Singers that are phenomenal I did not know existed.
In 2020, I had a Caretaker live-in job and listened to these songs at night sometimes while Birdwatching. It was relaxing, soothing and very comforting to me. I kept up in my search of these songs and it would become an obsession. Mostly because they were not easy to find new Artists.
I complied lists on YouTube, folders and then ended up deleting my channel for personal reasons but wrote down the names and kept them then added them to a new channel I made but not as many. I also put up one on Spotify.
The music really touched my heart, and was desperately needed in my messed up life. The lyrics to most of these songs are very abstract and artful. The artistic meaning is so subjective it can be applied to almost any subject, not many songs are less direct like that.
So now I really want to find and support these Artists and also get their names out there so people can listen too. I have had a few people contact me asking for help with their songs. A few of them do not fit the genre at all and I hate telling people that, but if you dont fit it, I am sorry.
It is a very specific sound. I thought about having my own channel that is my dream, but to upload videos of Copyrighted songs is a process and its illegal to do it without permission, so a playlist is all you can do unless you want to undergo a great deal of work for nothing. A lot of people get away with that already on YouTube but I dont want strikes against my channel so I don't even bother.
I am inspired by channels like AlexRainbirdMusic, and IndieAir, I was hoping to be like them someday but with all the permission you would have to ask it would be a pain.
I notice on youtube, that many people that are popular on Spotify have hardly any followers on YouTube at all, they will be lucky if they have a lousy thousand, if that. This is sad because musicians these days do not get the money they deserve for their music. The industry has changed, most do it alone without Record Labels, and they have to be found somehow.
I hope I can encourage you, even though I am a nobody, to listen to some people I will list on my Master List page, and hope you like them as much as I do.
